Marjory B. Wheeler Service Award Pins
The Marjory B. Wheeler Service Award was created in 2015 following a donation received by the Guild and is named in honor of one of the Guild’s co-founders, Marge Wheeler. Marge and Ann Heslop co-founded the Guild following a successful needlework show held in 1970. Marge served as President during the 1970’s and again in the 1990’s and ran many workshops and needlework shows that attracted hundreds of Guild members over the years. She enjoyed sharing her love of needlework by teaching and mentoring. She remained an active member all of her life and inspired many others to join and serve the Guild in various capacities.
The award is given at most once per year and recognizes a member in good standing who has gone above and beyond in providing outstanding service to the Guild. Names of candidates can be submitted for consideration by any current Needlework Guild member.
Congratulations to the most recent recipient - Leslie Snowball!
Leslie received the award on April 14, 2026, and her proud family was on hand to celebrate with her.
Following is an excerpt from Leslie’s nomination, which was read by Diane Blinn.
The member we are honoring today has truly gone above and beyond in her service to the Guild and continues to do so even today. She joined the Guild in 1988 and by 1990, took on the job of cashier during Stitchery Showcase. After that, she worked with Joyce Wiland on display and served on that committee for several years. In 1992 and again in 1993, she also served as secretary while continuing to work on display. Then in 1994, she served as Vice President under Marge Wheeler as well as co-chair of Stitchery Showcase.
Our recipient has served on the nominating committee, as Guild advisor, newsletter editor, treasurer for four years, and still worked as co-chair of display. She served as Stitchers’ Fair Co-Chair and now serves as the chair of this important committee. She spends many days working at Ebe House with her team, sorting through all sorts of donations from members and the general public. Who thought that we would still be receiving donations after all of these years of collecting needlework stash? Surely we should have run out of stuff by now!
You can also find Leslie at most meetings, making numerous runs to her car with even more treasures. Then, when it’s time for the Member’s Sale in August, she, along with her hard-working committee, has everything priced, sorted and ready to tempt us with great deals we just have to have. Stitchers' Fair has been so successful that we have had to order bigger tents. Our education fund has benefited immensely as well.
I don’t know how she has the time, but she has won ribbons, including the Best of Show Quilt for her Birds of Many Colors, the Seiberling Award for her Homage to Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt, as well as a Judge’s Choice from Patricia Thompson for her Sunflower Bouquet canvas, all entered in Showcase 2025.
Thank you Leslie, for all you have done and continue to do for the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild!
