2023 Stitchery Showcase

The 2023 Stitchery Showcase was held October 5th-8th in conjunction with Ohio Mart at Stan Hywet. The show featured more than 300 pieces of hand-stitched needlework from approximately 100 entrants. The entries included a wide variety of techniques, themes and styles. The most popular categories were Canvas, Counted Thread, and Surface Embroidery.

Visitors to Showcase who enjoy shopping from the juried Ohio Mart vendors outdoors often ask if any of the needlework pieces can be purchased. Some are quite disappointed upon hearing the hand-stitched items are not for sale. They are encouraged to stop by the Needlework Guild table where there are small items offered for sale along with fundraiser tickets for a few larger pieces which are shown below.

The 2023 Guild sale featured fall-themed ornaments and pins. Members produced an impressive collection of Halloween and autumn-themed smalls using various techniques. Proceeds support the Guild Education Fund.

2023 Fund Raising

The Needlework Guild offers beautiful hand-stitched small items for sale at the Guild booth and also sells tickets for larger items in a raffle for Fundraiser prizes at every Showcase. Fundraiser tickets can be purchased prior to the event and during the show. The drawing takes place on the final day of the show, and you do not need to be present to win. Proceeds from the drawing support the Textile Conservation Fund for Stan Hywet which supports the efforts of refurbishing and maintaining textiles within the Manor House.

The 2023 fundraiser offerings included a detailed appliqued quilt wall hanging, a large wooden chest covered in a classic-style floral needlepoint, and a whimsical snowman Christmas stocking.

Owl Wall Hanging:
“Wise Guys” was designed by member Ginger Mangie, a certified National Quilting Association teacher and owner of Wildside Stitching based in Youngstown, OH. The wall hanging measures 19 x 46 inches and was stitched by four current Guild members and assembled and quilted by Ginger.

Winner: Janice Fisher

Needlepoint Covered Chest:
The Needlepoint Covered Chest is a classic Chippendale design constructed out of Honduras mahogany and measures 19.5 x 16.6 inches and 15.5 inches tall. It was donated by the family of Joyce Feucht who was a long-time member and often designed and taught pieces for the Guild. The canvas selected for the top was organized, stitched, and assembled by seven current members.

Winner: Nancy Tober

Snowman Stocking:
The Snowman Stocking, measuring 10.5 x 20 inches, was hand stitched on a painted needlepoint canvas with more than 30 different stitches and approximately 20 different threads. The canvas was donated to Stan Hywet by Tina Fisher, and the Stitch Guide was designed by Linda Corirossi at the Canvas Retreat. Stitching and finishing were done by members of the Needlework Guild.

Winner: Vicki Eby

The Guild thanks everyone who purchased tickets. Please visit our Conservation page to see how funds raised from the ticket sales are used at Stan Hywet.
