2026 Textile Arts and Artisan Show

The 2026 show was a lovely exhibit of old and new textile arts. The Stan Hywet Needlework Guild welcomed nine local groups who shared their weaving, spinning, rug hooking, embroidery, and some lovely historical pieces. Of special interest was the antique quilt show provided by a local family as well as samples of vintage whitework linens from the Hower House collection.

Guild members demonstrated various stitching techniques that included punch needle, beading, sashiko, stumpwork, and contemporary needlepoint. There are so many ways to use a needle and thread! Members of the Conservation Committee showed examples of work done in the Manor House. All of the exhibitors enjoyed sharing their art and talking with interested persons about how to attend their upcoming meetings as guests or as new members.

Antique Quilts

Collection of Lynda and Bill Grieves

The Stan Hywet Needlework Guild thanks the Grieves family for allowing us to display these antique treasures that have been passed down in their family. The large hanging quilts, with the exception of the blue and white ‘Tree of Life’ design, were made by three sisters named Mary, Eliza, and Anne McQuilkin. The small crazy quilt is attributed to Anne McQuilkin Johnston, who was living in Lisbon, OH when she passed away in 1915.
